Onojo City, situated in Fukuoka Prefecture, recently commemorated the 50th anniversary of its establishment as a municipality. In collaboration with Kyushu University, Onojo City organized a projection mapping event that spanned from late March to April 2023. For this project, the city hall served as the projection surface to highlight the city's milestone anniversary.
The projection was tailored to suit an administrative facility characterized by a simple architecture and a restricted projection area. The narrative was created to integrate the rich history, traditions, and distinct local attributes of Onojo City. We aimed to achieve a practical visual presentation that could serve as a paradigm for future city promotional activities. Although the projection surface wall was stained, affecting the image quality, this issue was mitigated through the application of image processing techniques. We assessed the efficacy of projecting visual content onto structures located in non-tourist areas.
