Abstract
Traditional Chinese motifs, with their beauty and originality of visual art and craftsmanship, offer great potential to enhance the value of design and thus gain recognition in the global marketplace. Evidence suggests that traditional Chinese motifs are becoming an important cultural element in future design applications. The paper takes the Tang Dynasty Floral Medallion motifs as the research subject, Cultural and Creative products as the carrier, and applies shape grammar to the innovative design of motifs. This paper adopts the literature collection and function extraction method to extract the outer and inner cultural features of the Tang Dynasty Floral Medallion motifs, and establishes the cultural feature data of Floral Medallion motifs in Tang Dynasty. The cultural features are evolved and reorganized through shape grammar. Finally, by integrating the evaluation methods of Kansei engineering, the innovative motifs in line with the public preferences are applied to Cultural and Creative products. The innovative design method applied in the study gives the Tang Dynasty Floral Medallion motifs vitality and sense of the times, and the design application in Cultural and Creative products verifies the feasibility of the method. The user demand-oriented innovative design makes the pattern screening more accurate, improves the effectiveness and success rate of the innovative pattern, and provides an interface for designers to study cultural products as well as the transformation of cultural features into design elements in the design process.
